A new Cultural Centre for Chester

Chester Performs, in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council, has developed ambitious plans to build a new Cultural Centre in the heart of Chester. The plans, when realised, will create an arts hub with something to offer everyone: a theatre to equal anything in the country, a new C21st library with modern facilities for all, and a boutique cinema, café and bar. The centre will incorporate Chester’s Grade II listed Odeon cinema, and form a lively and inviting cultural heart for a city currently lacking such facilities. It will also form a permanent home for Chester Performs’ nationally recognised productions.

Tarnside has worked with the Council and Chester Performs since 2012 to support the fundraising for this project, developing the initial Vision and fundraising strategy. We are delighted that the Centre has been awarded a £3m capital grant from Arts Council England. Tarnside is also supporting Chester Performs in its approaches to regional and national trusts and foundations, generating significant gifts from the Westminster Foundation, the Granada Foundation and others. This has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shape the heart of Chester and create a cultural legacy for the city.
