Lake District Calvert Trust
This project started life as a £1.6 million appeal for a new swimming pool and grew into a £3.46 million appeal to transform LDCT for the 21st century. The success of the appeal has enabled a 50% increase in capacity, the building of a world-leading state-of-the-art water centre and the launching of a substantial outreach programme – all of which will enable more people with disabilities, including (often for the first time) those with the most profound disabilities, to benefit from outdoor adventure and the expertise of LDCT.
“We are thrilled with the success of this appeal. With Tarnside’s guidance our centre’s horizons have expanded and our world-leading facilities are secured for the long term.” Robin Burgess, Chairman of Trustees
“Thanks to Tarnside’s agility and experience, we were able to change our appeal fundraising strategy when the 2008 credit crunch made prospects with charitable trusts look very challenging. A refocusing on the statutory sector, and the financial success this brought, helped positively step-change the scope of the project and present a successful appeal that charitable trusts then felt able to support.” Sean Day, Centre Director.
